The Flower Label program is a joint initiative of human rights organization, labor unions, churches, manufacturers of flowers and florists.

The program ensures humane working conditions and environmental friendly flower cultivation in Africa and Latin America.

Bloomways, one of the largest import companies in Germany supports the development and advancement of the program.

In order to receive the seal of quality from the FLP, the producing farms must fulfill the following criteria’s:

• Secure wages
• Independent labor unions
• Prohibition of child labor
• Health care
• Prohibition of toxic agriculture pesticides
• Responsible use of natural resources

When Bloomways selects new suppliers, they require this criteria’s in order to do business with them.  An independent tester makes sure that they meet the criteria’s of FLP on site. Human rights groups and labor unions have the right to spot check. If the workers encounter any difficulties, they can contact an independent complaints department.

You can contribute by buying flowers from the Flower Label Program and help these countries to develop their economy. More farmers may take human rights and environmental protection more seriously. Please set an example when you buy flowers.

The climate in parts of Africa and South America is ideal for high-quality cut flowers. Many countries from this region have specialized in the production of cut flowers and export in great quantities to Germany. During the winter time, almost every second cut flower comes from an African or Latin American country.
